ABOUT

I am a documentary and editorial photographer based in Porto, Portugal. I was born in Viseu, Portugal (1982). I studied Photography in 2001 at ETIC (School of Technology, Innovation and Creation) and Photojournalism and Lighting at CENJOR-Journalism School in 2002 and 2003 in Lisbon. I also have a bachelor's degree in art history from the School of Social Sciences and Humanities of NOVA University (2012). After an internship at Público newspaper in 2001, I worked as a photojournalist at A Capital between 2002 and 2004. From 2005 to 2015, I worked as a freelancer for the editorial market, collaborating with Sábado Magazine, UP (inflight magazine of TAP) and NAU XXI magazine.
Moreover, throughout my career, I have published in Única magazine (from Expresso newspaper), Notícias Sábado magazine, Essential Magazine, El Mundo newspaper, Sunday Times and ARTE German magazine. I collaborated daily with "i" newspaper from its foundation in 2009 until 2015 and was the lead photographer of High Life magazine in Macao SAR-China, from 2016 until 2018. Alongside working as a photographer in Macaord (High Life magazine, Macau Closer magazine and Ponto final newspaper), I developed projects in 2019 on Hong Kong, covering the territory's pro-democracy movements and Cambodia, reporting on Khmer Rouge survivors. In Ukraine in April 2022, I focused on Zakarpattia and the displaced populations there due to the Russian invasion. Extending my interest in human rights, identity, and forced migration, my first project after returning to Portugal in 2021 was awarded by Portugal's Ministry of Culture (DGArtes) and dealt with the Indonesian fishing community (over 500 people) that settled in Caxinas, Portugal's most significant fishing community. The project materialized in three exhibitions (Porto, Caxinas and Espinho) and significantly impacted the media, bringing a vastly unknown community to light. At the end of 2023, I won a grant from DGArtes to develop a documentary photography project on bluefin tuna fishing on the Portuguese Algarve coast and a grant from Fundação Oriente to work on Asian migration to Portugal.
